Your Guide to Las Animas County and Huerfano County in Southern Colorado
SegundoSegundo is a small and picturesque unincorporated town about 15 miles west of Triniadad on Highway 12. Old Segundo, or Los Varros, was one of several plazas that sprang up along the Purgatoire in the 1860's. In 1901, the Colorado & Wyoming Railway reached Segundo and built a five-stall roundhouse and operating headquarters there and the present town Segundo grew up around it. Numerous coal mines were opened in the immediate area by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in the early 1900's.
